Today for the first time, I went to PF Chang's with a very good friend of mine for a birthday celebration. For appetizer, I ordered a salad- which to me tasted too oriental and un-American- and then I also ordered spring rolls. My friend ordered the hot and sour soup and spring rolls as well. For more pics and reviews on the entrees, read below. Enjoy!
These Spring rolls were pretty good, unlike the entrees... In fact, these spring rolls were some of the best I've ever tried, and trust me, I've tried a handfull of spring and eggrolls in different states, regions, and restaurants in my life.
My friend's opinion on the spring rolls was, "they were perfectly cooked. It was light, yet satisfying. Oh and the duck sauce is dank." Yes, my friend said dank. We live in a generation where the meaning of the word dank not only means damp and soggy, but actually defines deliciousness or awesomeness... moving right along.
For the main course, I ordered their Crispy Honey Shrimp. It was lightly battered and tossed in a sweet and tangy honey sauce with green onions. Sounds delicious right? Wrong.
In all honesty, the appearance of the food wasn't too great and neither was the taste. The food was cold before it even got to our table (and I can assure you, it was not the waiter's fault). Moreover, the food wasn't even palatable. The rice was hard and the shrimp didn't taste all that good. I mean even Panda Express' food quality was five times better in my opinion.
My friend, on the other hand, ordered the Chang's Spicy Chicken. The description for this entree on the menu was, "Tender, diced chicken breast lightly dusted and stir-fried with a tangy sauce of sweet and spice." Was it tender? No.
In fact, it was hard as a rock. Okay so I'm exaggerating a bit. It was not that hard... but it wasn't that tender either! According to my companion, "the rice was hard and was very bland, the chicken itself was excellent in flavor but somewhat cold, the veggies brought a nice flavor to the chicken." Overall, it was rated a 7/10. I, however, would give it a 5/10.
On to dessert. My close friend Sahba had actually recommended the "Great Wall of China" to me, so I decided to give it a try. The Great wall of China was this chocolate dessert that had six rich layers of frosted chocolate cake and was topped with semi-sweet chocolate chips, and its served with fresh berries and raspberry sauce. Was it good? Well...
It was pretty good, but I wouldn't give it the full 10 stars. Although it was their most rated and popular dessert on the menu, if you've ever tried the chocolate wave from Red Lobster or the Brownie Obsession from TGIF's, it was not as good as theirs.
My friend's view on this was that, "The cake, to my surprise, was huge. I didn't expect such a big portion. Regardless, the raspberry sauce was sour, but I thought it went well with the sweet chocolate. The overall cake was yummy and the fruits topped it off well." I totally agree with this opinion, the dessert WAS indeed a ginormous portion, and it could be easily shared amongst 3-4 people. And the raspberry sauce was not a nice touch, as the cake itself was already bitter because it had dark chocolate in it as well as dark chocolate chips. The whole dark chocolate lingo along with the sour raspberry sauce made me squirm and quiver like one would after taking a spoon of cherry flavored medicine.
I give this dessert a 7/10.
Taking all this into account, I give the venue an 8/10, as it was roomy, neat, tidy, and had a very cozy filled atmosphere. I give the waiting service a 10/10, as our waiter was very swift with his job. The waiter I felt was also caring as he would check up on us frequently without rushing or bugging the hell out of us, and he refilled our glasses instantaneously without our asking- I absolutely LOVE waiters who do this, as some will WAIT for you to give them the hint to fill up your cup. Dear Lord I absolutely HATE being dehydrated with my meal, like refill my damn drink already. As for the food, I'd give an overall rating of 6/10.
As my friend liked to put, "the food was CLASSY, yet TRASHY." Couldn't have said it better myself.
